    Many employers already provide sick pay for their employees beyond the SSP scheme entitlement. As a result, employers may wish to update their template contracts for new hires so that contractual sick pay includes any applicable SSP entitlements.

    Other employers, however, who do not provide paid sick leave will face a significant cost burden as a result of the scheme.
