Health Professionals will come under new statutory regulation from next year, in a similar way to what exists for doctors and nurses. In a move that will encompass social workers, social care professionals, dieticians, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, radiographers, podiatrists, medical scientists and clinical biochemists, the new regulations will be in force from 2013 onwards. Anyone engaging in the above professions could be struck off the register for poor performance or professional misconduct, and as such employers must be aware of how these regulations will affect their business and potentially their employees.
