Introduction

iFacility install security solutions for businesses across the UK.

80 employees work for iFacility – including in-house office workers, warehouse staff, security engineers, and software developers.

Ben is Head of People. He describes how Peninsula supports him and his team, Ellen and Lewis, with their HR and Health & Safety priorities.

Why Ben chose Peninsula

Before Peninsula, Ben would call a solicitor to get a second opinion on risky areas of employment law.

He soon realised that this wasn’t cost effective, as the solicitor would charge high hourly rates for each call.

While Ben already used Peninsula’s HR software, he decided to upgrade to the full package to access unlimited HR advice too. This meant that Ben could contact an employment law expert at any time – and each call is included within their flat, fixed fee.

Dealing with solicitors for HR advice...

...became very expensive, very quickly – especially as I wanted a regular sounding board

- Ben / Head of People at iFacility

Along with HR advice, Ben now enjoys a full package of Health & Safety support, online tools, and employee wellbeing resources. Two years on, Ben discusses how his team benefits from this total support…

Health & Safety that boosts customer trust

Ellen, a member of Ben’s team, is primarily focused on Health & Safety management – which is hugely important for iFacility.

When potential clients search for security providers, they want to check they are working with safe, certified engineers.

So clients often have specific compliance requirements – and want their contractors to be accredited.

It’s why, for iFacility, showcasing robust Health & Safety processes is crucial. They use their CHAS certification to prove their commitment to safety, and secure new work opportunities.

The work Ellen does with Peninsula helps iFacility’s internal audit team pass CHAS assessments, and maintain their certification.

Here’s how:

  • Unlimited guidance

When new regulations kick in, Peninsula’s Health & Safety consultants inform the iFacility team and discuss the impact of any changes. Plus, Peninsula identify any potential risks that could affect engineers at iFacility, and work with the team roll out risk assessments and reduce hazards.

  • Online tools

With Peninsula's Health & Safety software, Ellen can share new risk assessments and method statements with engineers online. They can confirm they have read and understood them in a click. Plus, with accredited e-learning, the team can boost their Health & Safety awareness.

Ben credits Peninsula’s support for helping iFacility maintain this certification – which plays a big role in winning new customers…

Ben

The work that we do with Peninsula has helped us to maintain our CHAS certification, and other certifications. It is a benefit for us, as quite a lot of our customers insist that we are CHAS-certified, to show we're a safe contractor. It means that people want to work with us, knowing that they are getting safe engineers who are knowledgeable in what they're installing

Seamless staff onboarding

Ben’s teammate Lewis manages recruitment within the business.

To carry out risk-free recruitment, Lewis relies on Peninsula’s HR advice and software.

He will check with his advisers that they he is following a fair hiring process, without letting unconscious bias affect his decision making. For example, he will check that his interview questions have zero risk of discrimination.

Lewis then uploads and tracks each candidate’s progress on Peninsula’s HR software.

This means Ben has visibility of all candidates and what stage they are at in the hiring process. If a candidate is successful, Lewis uses the software to onboard them – and send them induction and training videos before their start date.

Lewis is working with Peninsula to check...

...we’re recruiting candidates in a fair way – from the documentation to the interview process, making sure we’re asking sensible questions. With the software, we’re then able to document how we are being fair with that selection process

Effortless employee perks

As Ellen and Lewis have tools and support to manage their HR priorities, Ben is able to focus on improving company culture.

This involves rolling out new employee benefits and perks.

When he has an idea to improve staff satisfaction, he discusses it with his Peninsula advisers first. His advisers will highlight any potential areas of risk – like if an incentive for high attendance could inadvertently discriminate against certain employees.

Plus, Ben can direct his staff to Peninsula’s EAP for wellbeing support.

This allows staff to discuss personal issues with a trained counsellor – at any time. It helps Ben to create a supportive workplace, where staff feel respected and appreciated.

We're very passionate about mental health...

...and wellbeing within iFacility. If employees aren’t happy or they don't have the support to be happy, they're not going to be able to perform and be well in themselves. So when staff need support, the first thing we do is recommend Peninsula’s EAP, which staff are really appreciative of
